Kalamazoo has a Scrabble Club!
Welcome!
Thanks for your interest in the Kalamazoo Scrabble Club! We're a group of fun folks who like to get together to play our favorite word game. We get together periodically to play Scrabble in person.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: How "intense" is the gameplay at meetings of the Kalamazoo Scrabble club?
- A: Most of us enjoy Scrabble as a social activity, chatting while we play. Players should agree on the terms of the game before the game begins, like which wordlist will be used, whether open-dictionary play is permitted, whether challenges will be used. Most games at Kalamazoo Scrabble Club meetings are open-dictionary, using the The Official SCRABBLE Players Dictionary, without challenges. If you prefer an intense, tournament-rules game, you're welcome to join! We have some regular players who enjoy tournament-rules play.
- Q: How long do events last? How many games do you play?
- A: We usually play two games which last about an hour each. If you can't arrive in time for the start of the event but still want to play, you're welcome to join us for our second round (which usually starts about one hour after the beginning of the event).
- Q: Should I bring my kids?
- A: Most players choose not to bring young kids. Remember that many naughty words are valid in Scrabble!
- Q: Who will I play against?
- A: We like to keep it social, and encourage players to play against opponents they've never played before. Participants mostly prefer 1:1 games, though we wwill often play a three-person game if we have an odd number of participants.
- Q: What should I bring?
- A: You don't need to bring anything. Our organizers have Scrabble boards, score sheets, and dictionaries. If you have a favorite board, please feel free to bring it, but don't feel obligated.
- Q: Do you play games other than Scrabble?
- A: Not usually at our regular gatherings.
